White space... or not white space?

Regular readers may recall that i had a chat about the idea of white space (bits with not much on!) on pages a while back, and i came to the conclusion that really, it's not for me.

Well this weeks SLYMI challenge on UKS was to follow this sketch. Aaaaaaaargh! I disliked the sketch so much that i left it until yesterday to complete the challenge. But a challenge is there for making us try something new, so, complete it it did.

and....here is my page, i used Cosmo Cricket patterned paper for a bit of interest in the background, made a mirror image of the sketch, added a bracket to frame the journalling, a bit of lace, and picked a really cute pic of Hannah from way back. Photographed it, uploaded it, job done.

As is my habit i blu-tacked the most recent page up in the kitchen, i have the three most recent LOs of the kids up, to give me a bit of inspiration, and the kids like to see them there before they go into their albums. Well, this LO kept looking at me accusingly.. "I'm not finished, you know...., you need to add more to me.... look at all this space that needs a little something adding etc, etc"

SO, I gave in, took it down and below is the page after i added a few extras.
Not much extra added, a doodled border around the edge, a bit of stitching, and a few die cut flowers and pearl brads. Don't want to influence you in any way... which is your preference? Is it better, more finished, or have i simply copped out and white space is the way forward?

Even after the additions, when Hannah came home her comment was, " i like it Mum, but it's not like one of your usual layouts!"

Well, for what is worth, I prefer the second version and you have still maintained the 'white' space!! I think, like you, I have this need to fill space... though I love to see other people do it!

I have to agree with Annette - I like both versions but the 2nd is my favourite :) I've not been brave enought to try a lo with lots of white space yet. Well done.

Oops, the above is me. Didn't realise dd1 was still signed in!

I agree with Annette as well and think the 2nd one is my fav and I think there still is some white space above the added extras. Love it.

Definitely the 2nd one for me...those flowers and leaves are just beautiful! I liked the first one...but when you see the 2nd one, the first version does look quite empty doesnt it. I dont think we are 'white space' kind of gals Ann lol!

Hi Ann

Number 2 definitely works for me. Think you still achieve the "white space" concept though. Fab work as usual.

Both are great Ann (such a gorgeous photo) but I too prefer the second - I don't do white space either!

I love that photo!! I like the second one more than the first..but it's degrees of 'like' rather than 'dislike' for them both. Blimey, if my LOs were as minimal as this sketch I could probably be up to date!!

Just to play devil's advocate - I rather like the first one! But then, I like white space on layouts! Having said that, I love the second one too - those flowers go really well with the overall colour theme.

I love white space and minimalism but even I thought that this sketch was just too minimalistic so I agree with the majority and say version 2.It still has loads of white space and is still inspired by the sketch so welll done.
