Union Action

Both my Dad and I have been union reps during our working lives. This photo from the 1980's that appeared in our local paper reminded me of the fact, and although the quality isn't great I had to use it to tell the story in a scrapbook page.

I dug into my Box of Crayons stash for the first time and scraplifted an idea from the front of the paper pack to base my layout upon.

All of the embellishments are either cut from the papers or are stickers from the range.

The title is the BOC Thickers, I love the multi-coloured kit, it goes well with the black and white photo and reminds me of the 80's; I even managed to use some of the cute puffy stickers on the page.  More is definitely more on this layout!

Vintage Shopping

Back in the early summer, Castle Bromwich Hall hosted a 40s day.  Hannah and Chris enjoyed visiting the vintage shopping stalls.

Although the clothes were a little pricey, the shopkeeper didn't mind them being tried on, they both looked very cute in the hats. 🎩

I used old October Afternoon stash to make the layout, a B side of a Space themed paper for the background and Office workers as a mat for my photos.

I also cut out ribbon bobbins, and punched the letters for the title from the patterned papers.

A few splats of ink and the layout was finished.

A Vintage Day Out

Hannah lives close to Castle Bromwich Hall  a Jacobean house with beautiful gardens that are open to the public.

In early May, the Hall held a 1940s day with stalls of all kinds: food, vintage clothing, sweets and cakes, along with vehicles from the war era.

Many of those who attended were dressed in vintage clothes, it was great to see land girls, Bevan boys, RAF pilots, Churchill  and even Laurel and Hardy!

Hannah had her hair styled in victory rolls, perfect photo opportunity for a scrapbook layout.

The gardens were looking gorgeous, and after a very cold and miserable Saturday, it was lovely to be able to get out (even though Hannah's boyfriend did get a little sunburnt)

It was a gorgeous day, one of the first really warm days of the year, and as it has been so dry we could sit on the grass to eat a picnic of wood stove baked pizzas.

Lovely!

Katie Skilton's Dies

A couple of weeks ago, I picked up a set of die newly designed by British designer for Sizzix, Katie Skilton.  They are her first set of dies, and I loved the clean simplicity of the designs.  I used thre of the five set I picked up on this one vintage layout about Kevin's family back in the 1970's.

He was brought up in Scarborough, and as this original photo is not of great quality, I couldn't make it any bigger.  Because of this, I chose a grid design making use of the dies to build mini scenes, spaces for my title, journalling and lots of embellishments!

The title is made using tile letters, the word 'love' is from the tribal words, and the word Beach is cut from corrugated card using the new Tim Holtz alphabet 'Deco'.

I cut the Nautical set of dies from these papers making a couple of small scenes with the whales, weeds, waves and starfish.

I used MME papers and PL style cards from the Happy Camper range, cut into squares and mounted onto contrasting cards.  The journalling is added next to the small photo, with the die cut 'laugh' at the top of the square.  I do love these dies, and can see me making a lots of use of them.

Seventies holiday photos.

I found these two small square photos taken back in 1978 towards the end of our fortnight's holiday. As I had treated myself to the new Anna Griffin Seafarer range of papers,

I thought they would be perfect to make a layout using the pictures.

I used a Pagemaps sketch from a monthly challenge on UKScrappers set last month along with my new papers to make this layout.

The background papers are sei and Anna Griffin Seafarer, I punched the stars with a set of Xcut palm punches.  stitches are stamped using a really old set of stamps...I've had them so long I can't remember the manufacturer, and I cut the ship out of the papers.

A few navy Nuvo drops finished the page.
The weather was better if anything this year!

Lorraine's First Communion

At a crop last weekend, a friend Anne brought along a set of scrapbooking kits she had made from old stash, mainly Cloud 9 papers and embellishments. We have been producing these kits from stash we want to share for the past 3 months, and it has gone really well.
It mean we empty out some of the papers we no longer want, and get to scrapbook with papers we didn't have in the first place!

This page makes use of an original seventies photo taken at my sister's First Communion.

 I am around about seven in the picture, and we are standing with my brother, two cousins and our teenage aunt standing at the back.

The title was cut from DCWV corrugated card in orange from a Tim Holtz typo die  I probably wouldn't have chosen these papers, but they were the perfect choice for this photo with its warm tint.  Looking forward to the next kit in the autumn.

Three Little Chicks

My sister had a big birthday at the end of June and our little brother (who isn't too far behind us as there are less than four years between the three of us) posted this photo of the three of us at the end of the 1960s on Facebook.

 Once I saw it, I had to scrapbook it!

The papers are an old set by Papermania (Mme Payraud) and I added transparency frames over pieces of the papers too (Crate).

Title is stamped and punched out with added Glossy Accents on top.  I also cut out three little birds from the patterned papers too.

A layout with a story.

My dad's brother, Brian, sadly died last year and I learned many things about my Dad's childhood when Brian's obituary was read. I was totally unaware of manny of the details; like my own Grandfather being invalided out of the service during World War 2 after suffering a fractured skull.

Their childhood was difficult and I decided to include some of the details included in Brian' obituary in this scrapbook page.  For me, this is what scrapbooking is about.  Recording those stories that could be forgotten if they are not written down.

The papers are from First Edition by Trimcraft, a travel set.

I liked their vintage feel to go with this photo of dad and Brian taken in the 1970s.

Vintage Wedding Photos

Back in the 1960's my Dad was best man for his brother at his wedding in South East London.

 

 I used Graphic 45 papers to match the vintage photos, some lace and words cut from Project Life cards.

I added cream animal dots after photographing for that finishing touch!

Friends Forever

We have a number of very poor quality, small photos (4x4") that were taken in the 1960s and 70s during our childhoods, and as there were so few photos I did want to include them on scrapbook pages.

After trying to clean them up, sharpen them and reprint using a photo editing programme I decided to gather a number of images on the same them to use on a layout.

 As Kevin spent his childhood in Scarborough there are many beach photos with his brothers, and this was the theme for my page.

The cardstock is MME Life Stories, papers are Papermania All Aboard and a piece of free paper from the Scrapbook Magazine.

 Embellishments are some repro cigarette cards, Studio Calico wood shapes and other tags, letters, stamps and clips from All Aboard.

Vintage Photo

No, not the Tim Holtz shade of distress ink, but a picture I have scrapbooked more than once.

 The picture is of Mum and Dad back in 1963 with my grandparents, not looking as old as I remember them.

 I was inspired by the Simple Recipe on UK Scrappers, which had a great idea for using up scrap strips of old papers.

  My Anna Griffin stash was used here, along with a couple of other papers which have been sitting in my storage files for a l-o-o-o-ng time.!

I have an excuse for scrapbooking older photos again and again, I have 3 children who might want to fight over them when I'm no longer here!

Beach photos

Searching about in the loft last month unearthed this little gem of a photo of my husband, on Scarborough beach as a toddler.  He lived there as a boy, but as cameras were not so great back in the 60's and 70's, the photos from his (and my) youth are of limited quality and as rare as hen's teeth!

This means that any picture gets scrapbooked!  I added other vintage images (the railway poster and postcard of Scraborough) to pad out the page.

title is cut from chipboard covered with the papers using a Tim Holtz die.

A Very Special Bond

My Mum was very close to her niece Julie, as they both had red hair people often used to think they mother and daughter, even when Mum was only a teenager.

Title is a mix of fonts, some die cut, the largest one stamped and cut out.

This photo was taken in the early 1960s, and as it was at the seaside I chose the Papermania Ahoy There papers to make the page, love the little beach huts.

The bunting is stamped (a Unity set) and I stitched on the heart.

Sadly, the photo is bittersweet as Julie died suddenly a few years ago, and is very much missed still.

50 years on...

I have used this photo more than once on my scrapbook layouts.

 It was one of the first photos I ever scrapbooked,  it appeared in the Creativity magazine back in January

and at a scrapbooking class taught a couple of years ago.

I even used the photo in the mini book I made at the Tim Holtz workshop!

..and now it is 50 year since the photo was taken, as my Mum and Dad celebrate their golden wedding today.
