The contrast between today, and the last time i signed on (2 years ago when i was made redundant) is unbelievable. In 2007 the Job centre Plus office was quiet, with very few people in there. Today there was a queue at the door, then a queue for reception, then another queue to see an advisor. I know that the West Midlands has been one of the places hardest hit by the recession, but it really hit home for me today. So many young people (in their 20s and 30s) having to sign on. The staff were amazingly well organised to deal with so many people, and despite the queues I was out within 45 minutes. No sign of any jobs being advertised yet..... I'll just have to play at being a housewife :)

It's frightening Ann - some of DS's friends didn't get home over the summer as they had part time jobs in their Uni towns. Those that did come home had no luck - even the ones who worked for Waitrose when at school. We're in an allegedly well off area but there are no jobs to be had.
Fingers crossed for you that you find s'thing soon.

It's incredibly sobering. We took a ride round a local industrial estate looking for a particular unit and I was shocked to see that at least 3 out of 5 untis are closed up - big names too; they were well known and consistent employers in this town. Perversley, new busines units are still being built. I resent the waste.
Good luck with your job hunt Ann, I hope that you can allow yourself to enjoy the being at home part a little!
Fingers crossed for you Ann. x
Hope you find something soon Ann. But try and enjoy your time away from work and being a kept woman!
