JYC Day 6. Teacher Gifts

This page was off topic for the journal, but I wanted to include this cards since one of the children in my class made it for me last year, and kept it specially. The journalling is all about my complete puzzlement over gifts given to teachers at Christmas and at the end of the school year. I think it may be because most of my experience is in secondary schools where giving gifts to teachers is rare, but I still don't understand the whole thing of teacher gifts. Is it another import from the US?So no gifts for me please, but I do love and appreciate anything the children make for me :)

In Germany the children take in gifts of sweets and chocolate at the beginning of term - not just for the teachers but for everyone. and they are all put together and each child gets a gift from the pile.
This means that when they go back to school in August the shops are full of paper cones and pick and mix - and some of the sweets can cost over a pound an ounce (sorry about the imperial weights, metric means nothing to me. I just can't visualise it)
