Prom Boys

I used a sketch from the now defunct Scrap 360 to base this LO upon,

I wanted to give it a party feel and had two 6x4 portrait photos, so it worked perfectly with them.

Loved the stag embellishment, perfect for four young bucks!

Papers are Teresa Collins chalkboard background and the Finley collection by Glitz designs. more faux enamel dots (Nuvo by Tonic)

Handsome boys

The week before last was my son's  Year 11 Prom. He and his friends met at ours to have photos taken in the garden.

One had a fabulous navy velvet  jacket,  my son a three piece suit in mid blue, in fact, it seemed blue is the new black as they all sported a little of the colour.  It was great seeing them all look so handsome (and grown up) together.

On his return, I  asked him how his night went, how lovely to hear him so excited about it all, he described 'busting a few moves' as he and his mates 'burned up the dance floor!'  Things have changed since I was a teen,

I remember most lads just skulking around the edge of the floor for much of the night eyeing up the girls, and swooping in for a slow dance with one at the end! Much better today I think.

UK Scrappers Cyber crop class.

I was asked to make a page for the UKS 10th birthday cyber crop a while back...

..and I loved the photos I took of Katie before her Year 11 prom, so I used one as inspiration for my class.
The class is live, so if you want to have a go take a look here, layouts need to be uploaded by the weekend.

There are lots of handmade flowers

and a fair amount of cutting too,

but if you are interested in making a feminine page with a vintage touch, then have a go :)

Back to Last Summer

If you are fed up with seeing festive pages, here's one from Katie's prom photos last July.

The jewellery I bought her was hand made as it was impossible to find anything mid summer to go with emerald green, so that is the theme to the page.

The title is stamped using a variety of stamps, as are the journalling block, pins and buttons.

Sad crafty news

Yesterday I received an e-mail from the owner of my local B&M craft shop telling me that the shop will be closing within the month. I've been going into Stampeezee for the past 5 years since I discovered it, and the shop introduced me to Unity Stamps, Graphic 45 papers and taught me how to use friendly plastic. Although the shop will remain online, it's not the same as going in and stroking the papers.

I will miss the personal service (I'm ashamed to admit that Debbie the owner knows me by name... must be something to do with the frequency of my visits :o ) and the specialist advice given by someone who really knows about crafting. So Hobbycraft and The Range will be my only local craft shops, I don't think they will be teaching me anything new any time soon.

So here is a LO made with lovely Graphic 45 papers bought from Stampeezee (The Wizard of Oz range) that seemed perfect for a page about Katie's prom dress. Lots of bits and pieces of stash used on this
page too.
Cardstock; Bazzill Kraft
Papers; Graphic 45
Hinges; die cut, grungeboard inked and embossed in gold
Letters; American Craft Thickers
Stamps; Martha Stewart

So if you have a local independent Craft Shop get out there and support it... far too many have closed of late.

A Prom page

I made a layout about Katie's prom last week for the challenge on UKS. It involved using a single photo, doodling, brads or eyelets and circles.

I took the opportunity to use loads of old flowers I found floating about in my stash!
Crop cancelled again today, might need to get crafting at home.

Prom Queen

When I first started this blog, one of my first posts was about Hannah's Year 11 prom. Now she is at University,
and it was Katie's turn on Thursday.
Now, you couldn't get two more different girls when it comes to getting ready for the big night: Hannah's dress was bought many months before the event, hairstyles and makeup planned, limo transport organised etc etc, it was a military operation and very lovely she looked too.
Katie was far more laid back, we managed to get her out of bed to find a suitable dress at a local bridal shop, but the jewellery and shoes were a very last minute affair, she was taken there by me in the Mondeo.
Different approach, but the same outcome, my little girl is a beautiful young lady :)

Good news first:

Lots of new stash from the NEC!!!!

Bad news, 2nd crop in 2 weeks cancelled due to low numbers attending :(.

At least it gave me time to make Mums Mothers day cards. Still not finished these yet, wrestling with a new card for my eclips, much paper has ended up in the bin :o

Well, it's one way of getting through old stash!!

New stuff bought:

A hot gem tool and lots of gems.

3 12x12 masks and some lovely chalk spritz sprays.

Gorgeous hand carved indian wooden printing blocks

A bag of felt offcuts.

Clay modelling set for harry (who kept me company)

A pressie for Mum for next Sunday

A Tim Holtz rosette die and bags and boxes cartridge for the eclips.
I used a fair amount of the new stash on this LO I made for the weekly UKS challenge. The background is spritzed with the chalks over a butterfly mask. The flowers are made with the rosette die, and even one of the wooden printing blocks makes an appearance on the backing paper behind the photos.

The pictures are of Katie being fitted for her prom dress, first of many photos I'm sure.

And have you done yours yet?

Your census that is.

Ours is finished and ready to be posted. I wonder who will be interested in it 100 years down the line when they are made public?

Summer workshop... first page

I went to a day long summer workshop last Sunday, and after a very hard days crafting (i felt like I had spent a day at work, we did so much!!) came away with 3 finished items, and 3 more to be completed. Here is one I finished at home, based (very loosely!) on a design by Ifa Zainon. I used the papers provided in the kit, (Websters), but changed almost all of the rest of the design (hence it looks suspiciously like one of my own pages anyway!!)

The photos are of Hannah taken for her sixth form prom a week ago, I used a Tim Holtz alphabet stamp set for the main part of the title, and a matching die (won at the crop... lucky me) to finish it off.

The embellishments were made from calico sprayed with glimmer mist, cut out and stitched (heart) love this idea and will definitely use it again. The flower is chipboard, coated with Glossy Accents and Beadazzles sprinkled on top. The original design was far more grungy than mine, but i decided to leave mine with a cleaner look... for a change. Pretty pleased how it turned out anyway. The red roses were part of a piece of ribbon trim, cut up and embellished with a button and gem, journalling paper Making Memories.

Busy day today, shopping with my sister, church fete, then more shopping with DD2 in town as she needs some new things for the summer.

Blog and Go........

Have been slacking this week, mainly as the weather is so good, and we are down to one very slow computer in the house as the other shuffled off this mortal coil early on in the week. So we await a new one being delivered.

A quick shot of Hannah ready for her sixth form prom (complete with funky new hairdo) she had her last exam on Friday, and has now officially left school.

Off to a crop today... seems a shame as the weather is so hot. I need to get back into making pages, I've only done 2 this month (SHOCK HORROR!!!)

Have been taking lots of photos over the past couple of weeks thanks to CJs course, so i will have lots to scrap when the weather cools a bit.

Have a good day all.
