At the beginning of the summer Mr C and my brother in law hit a big milestone within a week of each other. It was before the really hot weather, but still we decided to risk an outdoor surprise party in our back garden, with just a few friends and family there. The girls made an astonishing pirate cake, covered in sweets, with added sails, bunting and chocolate butter icing.
Of course, the occasion generated lots of photos, so I used Photoshop to put my 9 favourites into a grid before printing... makes for a quick layout.
A challenge on UKScrappers helped me to finish the page, using Craft Storyteller papers, a quotation from a Robert Frost poem, and my Tim Holtz alphabet masks that I hadn't used in ages.

Jubilee Mad!
I wanted to get many of my photos from last weekend scrapped before going back to work on Monday. The half term ahead is going to be crazy busy, so I've made 3 Jubilee LOs in the past days!
Here's one I made today, about the tea we had last Sunday.
The summer fruit cake seen in the Royal wedding pages last spring made a reappearance, and I added the menu for our tea behind the main photo.
Papers are all Portobello Road by Papermania, and lots of Tom Holtz dies used too.
I've linked this post to Jennifer's scrapbooking soiree here, why not take a look, and join in too!

Romance..
.. is certainly alive and kicking in our house, and as my OH like to bake, this is how he shows his more soppy side!
He bought some silicon heart shaped bun cases yesterday, and had to try them out today.... and really well they worked too!
The cakes are still sitting on the cake stand, but only because Harry has been threatened with a fate worse than death if he hogs the lot :)
Last day of unemployment tomorrow, so out for lunch with my sister as a treat!

That Royal Wedding
Well, I couldn't post today without mentioning this now could I? I'm not really a royalist (being RC means this proves a bit difficult!) but Hannah has been so interested in this for months now, and her infectious enthusiasm drew (most of) us in :)
So... did you do anything different for that wedding today?
We didn't do too much, watched the wedding, ooooed and aaaahed over that dress (similar to my Mums 1960s wedding dress with the satin skirt and lace covered bodice and sleeves) put our bunting to good use and had high tea......
with a lovely cake baked by Kevin, and decorated by Hannah. Kev looks miserable as the only way I could get the photo was to open the french doors and it wasn't too warm today!

A Lovely birthday....
I know I've got to the age when I now have to think about how old I am and do a quick calculation, but I did have a lovely day today as I turned 47!

I spent the morning scrapbooking with friends in Nuneaton, after picking up a gorgeous kit from the Exhall crop. Then out for lunch with the family, and home for a chocolate birthday cake, baked by Kevin, and decorated by Hannah.
The cake was originally cooked last night by the kids while we were out for an Anniversary meal, but when we got home Hannah was despondent.... as it looked more like a couple of large chocolate chip cookies than a cake! (Her words, not mine!) Never mind, Kev to the rescue, and Hannah still got to cover the cake with the icing she made yesterday!
I spent the afternoon finishing the pages from the Exhall crop kit, so I'll share these later in the week... and even better, the weather forecast is set fair. I think the bluebell woods will be at their best, so a trip to our local one could be called for :)

A Layout at last....
I made this page at the Exhall crop last month, it's another of those
where I would never have bought the papers as th
ey just didn't seem to appeal to me, but I love the final LO.

Almost all the embellishments are cut from the papers, but I used a couple of my own stamps to add to the page (Unity and Tim Holtz). The chipboard tree is inked in autumnal colours (for an October birthday) and Glossy Accents added on top for a bit of shine.
Photos are recent ones of Katie at her birthday, I love the way she is in her PJs blowing out the candles on the cake.

ff on a weekend retreat to Shropshire with other ladies from the Nuneaton crop, a cottage has been hired and off we go on Friday for a weekend of scrapping, silliness and lots of chat!! You never know, I might get some pages made... just hope the impending snow doesn't start until we get there! I have a feeling we might be in for a cold winter, I can't remember having snow forecast so early in the year before.

And the winner is...
.. well i'm ashamed to admit that Kev and I were joint winners (i did want the kids to win!), but Hannah won for best starter, my was the best main course, and Kevs was the best pudding. I think Katie did amazingly well (especially her pudding, a baked cheesecake with almost no help at all) and although Harry did get lots of help, he was so keen to get involved in the cooking it was a joy to behold! So although Kev and I won, it lets me off the hook, as i don't have to come up with a prize! Kev wants to try Ready Steady Cook next.. watch this space :)
I do have a lot of scrapbooking to do, i can't believe it's the last day of August and i haven't scrapped any holiday photos yet.

Not much time today...
... as it's my turn to cook!

Hannah's meal was a total triumph yesterday, she made various houmous dips with crusty bread and tortilla chips to start (these were so good that even Harry has now decided he will eat houmous, the lime and coriander one was fabulous) and the very clever girl even decided to include some mini chicken kebabs to keep the carnivores happy!
Main course was a gorgeous ratatouille, with lentil fritters. I think Hannah could be the one to beat!!

I'm doing comfort food, bruschetta with roasted vegetables to start, and beef and ale pie or fennel and roasted baby tomato pie for the main course. Harry is doing the pudding, chocolate fondue!
I made the fatal e
rror of going to Unitys blog link, and as a final splurge before being poor bought myself a couple of half price stamp sets in the sale. I have had my eye on the eco chic ones for a while, with Hannah interest in all things environmental i am sure i can put them to good use.

Better today...
... and summer's back!! The warm weather has returned, so Hannah and i went into town today to visit an Italian market in the city centre. Some lovely food (if a little pricey.. shame the Euro exchange rate is so bad) and some very cheeky Italians!! I bought Hannah an ice-cream from one of the vendors, and the guy selling said to Hannah 'What would your sister like?'....I just burst out laughing... as if!!!!
Here is a page i made at our mini crop here on Thursday night. A very quick page using yet more of my Cosmo Cricket papers, and the chipboard alphabet that came with them. The busy design of the papers seems to go really well with the busy cake!
Another crop tomorrow in Nuneaton. I haven't decided what to take yet, but I
have one sketch i want to get done. Am off into town now (yes at 9pm at night) with my camera and tripod. There is a fantastic new fountain near the theatre that has just been opened, and i want to try and get some shots of it. Low light levels might mean i get some really interesting photos.

Cakes... and Victorian day.
Well we did manage to get out for a meal last night, the Take That concert was very loud, you could hear the whole stadium singing at the end! My sister(who lives about 2 1/2 miles from the Ricoh could also hear it in her garden! When we got back home we had birthday cake, which was lovely, and as it was so enormous, Kev took the rest in to give to his class at school.Today is Victorian day at Harry's school. As he had completed
a short project in Isambard Kingdom Brunel, this is who he dressed up as. I helped Harry make a cigar, and a pocket watch, painted his face, and sorted out a cravat. Kev made the towering top hat from an old cereal box, and a large cardboard box that had been lurking around the garage for at least a year!!

No work for me until tomorrow, the house is an absolute tip, so i think i need to do some tidying :(Monday, 8 June 2009
Happy Birthday Kev

It's funny to think that my lovely OH was only just 24 when we started going out... in 1987. He had a few grey hairs then, but within a month of us meeting we both knew that this was 'it'!! Well he's 46 today, and as Hannah was not in school this afternoon (she had her last AS exam this morning) she spent this afternoon making Kev this AMAZING cake!!! I had got him the tin after seeing it in Lakeland a few weeks ago... and he was so pleased with it. He is the master baker in our house! Just hope he gets home before Hannah eats it all herself!

The kids also made cards for their Dad, Harry's was this interactive one, with googly eyes and moving eyes!! Mine (at the top of the post) is a bit staid in comparison!
We might be going out for tea tonight, it depends what time Kev gets home. Ta
ke That are on in concert at the Ricoh arena, which is less that a mile from our house... if we can negotiate the traffic (heading in the opposite direction!) then i won't have to cook! Much as i like Take that, I'm not looking forward to the next 3 nights of gridlock outside the house, as over 110,000 people try to get to the stadium.

Afternoon less so, some very poor behaviour to deal with again... but i feel I'm making progress. Back in on Wednesday, I'll crack the Year 8 group then!
