Musical Blog...

One of my favourite musicals is Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.

I first recall hearing it played using a scratched 33rpm record in a music lesson at my secondary school back in the 1970s (showing my age now!) We loved it, and used to sing along to the songs in class.

I'd sort of forgotten about it until the 1990s. One of my daughters came back from a camping holiday with the Brownies. Brown Owl had taken the group to see Joseph, and Hannah loved it too, so I bought her a copy of the music and it was regularly sung about the house. It was shown a few years back at my local theatre, so I took the girls along (twice!) and it was even better live.

At school last Friday our Year 4 teacher retold the story of Joseph with her class as an assembly for the school, and they sang lots of the songs from the show, bringing back happy memories. I was delighted when another member of staff told me that Joseph was being re-staged at The Belgrade, and so booked tickets for the spring.

There are some shows worth experiencing far more than once!

End of 2011 summary

On the 30th of December Shimelle asks us to summarise the year in readiness for the new one approaching. I decided to make a DLO this year, and made a collage using PSE of some of my favourite moments from 2011. I was going to leave it at that, but I can never seem to resist putting pen to paper, so I made a matching page for the journalling, with a small square punched out for each month.
The LO did take a while, but as I was at a crop on the day I made it, the time was well spent!
I'm almost done with the journal for this year, 2 more pages to make, and with upcoming crops next weekend that's when I'll finish it.

A Mouses Tail

Here is a story (true) that I can see making it to a scrapbook page (if only I can get a picture of the pesky beast!) Our lovely cat (belonging to DD1 who has left her behind as she is at Uni) brought a little furry playmate in on Saturday night. Unfortunately she failed to dispatch the rodent, and spent the night running about my bedroom after it like a crazy thing.. And so we reach Sunday night, we had also failed dismally to catch the animal which was, by now, making itself at home in our room.

We cleared out under the bed in an effort to track him down, all to no avail. So off we went to bed (having locked kitty in the utility to prevent an increase in the mouse population) and tried to sleep. At around 2am I heard a lot of scrabbling about in the room, and then the mouse ran up and down the curtains, the door, in fact anywhere it could jump, probably looking for food :(

I nodded off only to wake with a start as I felt something tickle my hand. Having had enough by this point I got out of bed and got in with Katie, who has a KingSize all to herself... peace at last.

When I arose this morning and asked Kev how he'd slept his response was "Fine, I only woke once, when I felt something tickling my hair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Still no mouse to be seen, and I've switched the heating on in the spare room in case I need to decamp again!! The only positive thing about the whole affair is that the underneath of my bed has been cleared and hoovered for the first time in AGES!!!!

A sad tale

This page is what scrapbooking is all about for me. A story, that evokes a strong memory or feelings. I know lots of people make beautiful layouts, with amazing embellishments, photos etc, but for me scrapbooking is about the story telling. I didn't realise this until i'd been scrapping nearly a year, but now a page is never done without journalling (two l's) preferably lots of it! Well Tyneham village really evoked strong feelings in me when we went to visit during the summer;

Sorrow that people were treated so shabbily by the governments of the day

Amazement that people lived such simple lives (the only water supply in the village had to be collected by hand daily)

Joy at the peace of the place

Pleasure at being able to experience what a village would have been like without all the modern trappings spoiling it's pretty face

So when SLYMI came up with a challenge to handwrite on a LO, i decided to handwrite lots on this page! The lower photo is one i took, the upper one is one i sourced from just before the village was cleared, and the story speaks for itself.

I got messy with this page, K&Co Remake cardstock, i used Tim Holtz barbed wire and clock masks, then sprayed over with silver cosmic shimmer mist. Papers and flowers are K&Co Amy Butler, Title is Cuttlebug Olivia (I did Glossy Accent this after taking the photo, but couldn't be bothered to wait for it to dry!) and a little bit of pink bling.

I can see Tyneham making future appearances on LOs, I was so taken with the place and it's story that i took loads of photos.
